Gran Canaria is the most densely populated of all the Canary Islands, with a population of over 800,000. 46% of whom are under the age of 30. Whilst it has a relatively young but rapidly growing university, there are a number of established international educational institutes and specialist seats of learning, both public and private. This island has all the cultural, economic and social vibrance of modern cosmopolitan life, and yet has retained its traditional values, and folklore. All of this within its setting that is truly a “Continent in Miniature”, means that since 1999, Gran Canaria is now the holiday destination for more than 3 million tourists a year, drawn by its mild climate all year round, and, its easy access from most of Europe’s major cities.
